But this sand rail is no ordinary off-road vehicle and with a value of over £230,000, it is only the super rich who can afford it.

A high ground clearance and V8 engine helps the car negotiate the desert terrain

Shot by British filmmaker David Jeffery, 22, this thrilling footage shows the lightweight high-powered automobile hitting speeds of over 110 mph while cutting through the thick terrain.

Car enthusiast Jeffery, who was born in Newcastle but has spent most of his life in Qatar, said that while sand rails are popular in the country, this particular buggy is very rare.

“Regular sand rails are quite common here, due to the sprawling desert and its wealthy inhabitants.

“However this vehicle was custom built to order, with much higher standards, meaning that there are only two or three worldwide, each with varying options such as colour scheme and interior.

“It has no issues performing tricks such as wheelies due to it's immense power level - maintaining the wheelie, however, requires quite a bit of driver skill.”

The footage was taken in the Mesaieed desert, approximately 50km outside Qatar's capital city of Doha.

And Jeffery said that growing up in the Middle East has helped fuel his passion for luxury automobiles.

“Being raised here meant I was always in touch with the culture, a lot of which revolves around high-powered vehicles.

“From an early age, I found that suited me quite well, as I always had an overwhelming passion for cars and their accompanying activities.

“I began getting involved with car spotting, private photo shoots and films, as a means to immerse myself with the automotive community.”
