PodRide is the all weather, four-wheel e-bike that is shaped like a miniature car

Design engineer Mikael Kjellman produced the crazy PodRide vehicle in Sweden with the basic idea of creating a weather protected and more comfortable bicycle.

Making use of an electric motor, this road-legal e-bicycle car can travel long distances both easier and cheaper whilst maintaining an eco-friendly journey.

Mikael said: “The basic idea of PodRide is to have a weather protected and more comfortable bicycle.

“I put a lot of effort into making it practical but it has also proven to be real fun to drive.

PodRide was recently on tour in Taiwan and people were amazed

“So my solution has been this four-wheeled, fully covered bicycle car.”

PodRide allows drivers to sit at the same height as those in normal cars and with extra room in the back for your luggage and shopping bags.

It has a 250w crankshaft engine and can reach 25km/h

Mikael always knew the importance of making the vehicle practical.

He said: “In the front I have an extra airing let, headlights and indicator.

PodRide is road-legal in Sweden and many other countries

“It has a 250w crankshaft engine, with rear suspension, a comfortable, padded seat and you steer with sticks on the side of the vehicle and brake with handles.

“We drive on both rear wheels and with many gears, it can even take on steep hills and rough terrain.

Drivers can even fit their baggage in the small boot

“And to get better ventilation in the summer you can open up the lower part of the front window and both the side windows.

“I use this small electric heater to defrost the windows when parked outside in the winter.”

The PodRide team are hoping to sell their first set of models later this year

With a range of 60km and a top engine speed of around 25km/h, PodRide is road-legal in Sweden and most other countries.

And now the team are planning on selling the first batch of models later this year, with an exact price yet to be confirmed.

Mikael added: “It’s still just a prototype, but I’ve been driving it to work for more than a year now and it has proven to work very well.”
